Planning a trip to Vietnam is not easy.
The country is very huge and many are the attractions and places of interest.
You should have months, or maybe years, to visit this beautiful country well.
We are lucky enough to have all the necessary time, but we realize that we are an exception.
Having been in Huè, we would like to share our experience with those who have to decide whether or not include this city in the itinerary.

WHAT TO SEE IN HUE IN A DAY: THE IMPERIAL CITADEL
Like a matrioshka of palaces built within other larger palaces, the Imperial Citadel is the symbol of the city.
During the 17th and 18th century, this huge architectural complex was the administrative headquarters of South Vietnam.
Time: at least a couple of hours
Cost: the entrance costs 250.000 dong you can add other 250.000 dong if you want a guide.
PS: in the evening the walls of the citadel are illuminated with colorful light games.
WHAT TO SEE IN HUE IN A DAY: THE PERFUME RIVER
This river with its beautiful name, crosses the city and its calm is in contrast with the chaos and traffic on the bridges crossing it.
On a sunny day, it is pleasant to stop watching boats sailing slowly on the river.
The name “perfume” comes from the tropical scent of plants and flowers transported by the river… honestly we can’t confirm it!
Time: It can be a good place to rest a while after exploring the Imperial Citadel.

WHAT TO SEE IN HUE IN A DAY: THIEN MU PAGODA
Along the banks of the Perfume river, this pagoda is the symbol of the city’s revolutionary past.
A quiet place and far from traffic, built in 1600, but destroyed several times.
Today here you can see the car of the famous Buddhist Monk Thich Quang Duc, who burned himself alive in Ho Chi Minh City as a sign of protest.
Time: 1 hour
Cost: free entry
WHAT TO SEE IN HUE IN A DAY: KHAI DINH TOMB
In the area around the city of Hue, several complexes are built that host the tombs of the emperors of the past.
One of the most scenic and most visited tombs is that of Khai Dinh. A massive site where Vietnamese art merges with European art.
Time: the site is 10 km from Hue so, including the journey, consider no less than 1 hour and 30 min.
Cost: 100.000 dong for the entrance ticket
WHAT TO SEE IN HUE IN A DAY: THANH TOAN BRIDGE
In the quiet village of Thanh Thuy, 8 kilometers from the city centre of Hue, there is this bridge characterized by a wooden shed and wooden ornaments with Chinese and Japanese style. The pints are very similar to the Japanese bridge that is located in Hoi An city.
Time: 1 hour, including the trip
Cost: 20.000 dong
Practical info:
– to move among the various places of the city, the best way is to take taxis, bargaining the price before entring the car.
– to reach Hue, the train is a very comfortable way and the station is located on the bank of the river opposite to the citadel.
