India is huge!!! It’s such a big Country, you’ll need a whole life to visit it all!
Which is the best part of India? what’s unmissable?
Those are just some of the questions we had while planning our 13 days (2 weeks) trip to India.
We decided to focus on Rajasthan, including Dehli (arrival airport), Agra and Mumbai (departure airport). But we already know we will have to go back to India because there are so many other amazing things to see!
Here is what we did during our 13 days tour to India – Rajasthan.
We visited India in August, not exactly the best time of the year because of the monsoons… but we were really lucky because it never rained.
Rajasthan in 2 weeks!
Day 1: Arrival in Dehli and visit to the “crazy town”. So big and chaotic, Delhi is the only place where we felt people were cheating on tourists… (e.g. tuk tuk driver who took us to the wrong place to get commissions).
Day 2: At 5 am, train to Agra. There are different options, we choose the cheapest one. A seat in a second class train for 270 rupies each. The journey is great and in less than 4 hours we arrive in Agra. As it is Friday, the Taj Mahal is closed. So we spend the afternoon in the fort and wandering around Agra’s narrow streets and colourful markets.
Day 3: We wake up at 5 am to visit Taj Mahal (ticket 1000 rupies, including a bottle of water and shoes’ covers). We spend 2 hours admiring the beauty and perfection of Taj. In the afternoon, we take a bus to Fatehpur Sikri.
Day 4: At 13.00 public bus to Jaipur (it takes more than 5 hours!)
Day 5: In the morning we visit the Amber fort (10-15 minutes by bus from Jaipur) and in the afternoon we decide to walk 4 kms to get to the monkey temple. What an amazing day!
Day 6: We take a bus to Pushkar (change in Ajmer). We spend hours admiring people bathing in the holy lake, before entering the Brahma temple.
We are half way through our journey and Pushkar is the perfect place to stop and collect ideas.
Day 7: We take the 7am bus to Jodhpur. This is the worst bus journey ever! 6 hours of unpaved roads!! Then we relax a bit for the rest of day!
Day 8: We visit Jodhpur fort (ticket 600 rupies – audio guide included) and we get lost in the blue city’s streets. In the afternoon we take a bus to Osyian (2 hours drive). When we arrive at the temple, the queue to get inside is incredibly long!!
Day 9: Another bus to get to Ranakpur. Tourists can visit the temple only from 12 to 5 pm (ticket 200 rupies – audio guide included). That’s a stunning place, so calm and magical, From here, we get another bus to Udaipur.
Day 10: We visit the City Lake Palace in Udaipur and the famous Jaghdish temple.
Day 11: bus to Eklingji to visit 2 beautiful temples. Here we get in touch with the real Indian hospitality… we have to wait more than 2 hours before seeing a bus. We are invited to take a seat in a “restaurant” selling fried food on the side of the road. We have so much fun that the time flies.
Day 12: We spend a relaxing day in Udaipur before getting on a night bus to Mumbai.
Day 13: A day in Mumbai, before going back home with a flight from the huge Mumbai airport (we get there by train and metro).
